Singer-songwriter P!nk is set to host the Tony Awards recognizing excellence in Broadway theater this year.
“When I was asked to host @thetonyawards, my first question was — don’t you need to have been on Broadway for this?” the entertainer wrote on Instagram Thursday.
“So I went ahead and fixed that. Kind of,” she joked, referring to video of her dressed as a 1920s flapper and trying to reach one toe from behind the curtain and onto the stage at a recent performance of The Great Gatsby.
“And now I’m hosting the Tony Awards!! The Broadway community is the hardest working in showbiz. They show up every single night, sometimes twice, and make absolute magic. I cannot wait to celebrate them all with you on Sunday June 7th on CBS.”
Nominations are expected to be announced on May 5.
Maybe Happy Ending was the big winner at the Tony Awards last year, earning the accolades for Best Musical, Book of a Musical, Original Score, Scenic Design for a Musical and Actor in a Musical for Darren Criss.
Sunset Boulevard scored the prize for Best Revival of a Musical and its lead Nicole Scherzinger was named Best Actress in a Musical.
Wicked icon Cynthia Erivo hosted the event.
