Chip Taylor, singer-songwriter who wrote ‘Wild Thing,’ dies at 86

Singer-songwriter Chip Taylor has died at age 86.
Taylor’s family confirmed his death Tuesday on Facebook, writing, “Hi all – we are sad to tell you that Chip passed away last night. His last days were peaceful. Chip loved the amazing blessing it was to connect with people through music and truly appreciated this community.”
Taylor, who wrote “Wild Thing,” the hit single released by the Troggs in 1966, and “Angel of the Morning,” released by Merrilee Rush in 1968, was a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter.
His team at Train Wreck Records memorialized him in an obituary, writing, “Although Chip will be greatly missed, his music will live on and continue to inspire for years to come.”
Taylor was the brother of actor Jon Voight and the uncle of actress Angelina Jolie. He was married to his late wife, Joan Carol Frey, for over 60 years and had two children, Kris and Kelly.
